What is a Disaster Specialist
To begin with, 80% of our total volume of work is derived from and referred by the Insurance Industry. We are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year and respond to all varieties of emergencies. Our services range from both Residential and Commercial fires, floods, oil spills, frozen pipe, sewage back-ups, and windstorm damage. During these emergencies we often remove the contents out of the building and put them into storage. This procedure requires a “pack-out” which involves making an inventory of items, packing, transportation and the storage of these items until they are cleaned or disposed of due to the extent of damage.
These emergencies generally require a “tear-out” of damaged insulation, drywall, and sub floors, ruined carpets and under pad, all in order to expose the affected area so it can be dried and treated. The treatment that is involved could be the application of a anti-microbial to prevent the spreading of fungi and bacteria, the set up and usage of drying equipment, and in the case of a fire, deodorization equipment and products, which is called smoke sealing.
Once we have completed the “tear-out” and “pack-out” phase, and after the premises are dried and treated, we then quote a price for reconstruction. We use both subcontractors and our tradesmen in order to complete this work. If there is risk of environmental pollution, caused by oil spills, etc., then we then call in environmental engineers to assess to situation.
Our company, TCR of Muskoka, has two divisions: Structural division, which consists of the Tradesmen, and the Subcontractors, who complete the “construction” part, and the Cleaning division, which carries out the “pack and tear” outs, as well as the cleaning.
As an IICRC certified firm, we strictly adhere to all the IICRC procedures and follow standard water and/or fire-damaged protocol. Also, as a DKC (Disaster Kleenup Canada) member, our head office keeps us in line with the latest products, technologies and procedures required to do the most inclusive job possible.
